Our Commitment

Kick to Connect is committed to the safety, wellbeing, and dignity of every young person who participates in our programs. The safety of children and young people is our highest priority — above program delivery, above reputation, above everything else.Every person involved in KTC — staff, coaches, volunteers, or visitors — is expected to uphold this commitment in every interaction with young people.

 

Screening and Suitability

Kick to Connect takes all reasonable steps to ensure that people working with young people are suitable to do so.

•All staff and volunteers working directly with young people hold a current Working With Children Check (WWCC) registered in Western Australia.

•Any person supporting KTC programs who has direct contact with young people must be approved by KTC before involvement.

•WWCCs are checked and recorded prior to any involvement with participants.

 

Supervision

KTC maintains appropriate supervision of young people at all times during programs.•Programs maintain appropriate adult to participant ratios at all times.

•No young person is ever left alone with a single adult in an unsupervised or private setting.•Sessions are conducted in open, visible environments wherever possible.

•If a young person needs to leave the group for any reason, appropriate supervision arrangements are made.

 

Code of Conduct

All KTC staff, coaches, and volunteers commit to the following standards in every interaction with young people:

•Treat every young person with respect, dignity, and care — regardless of ability, background, or behaviour.

•Never use physical punishment, intimidation, humiliation, or any form of emotional abuse.

•Never engage in inappropriate physical contact — all physical contact must be appropriate to the coaching context and never initiated without consent.

•Maintain appropriate professional boundaries in all interactions with young people and their families.

•Never communicate with young people privately via personal social media accounts, personal messaging apps, or any channel not sanctioned by KTC.

•Never be alone with a young person in a private or unsupervised setting.

•Never consume alcohol or be under the influence of drugs during programs or when responsible for young people.

 

Reporting Obligations

Kick to Connect takes all concerns about child safety seriously. Any concern, suspicion, or disclosure relating to the abuse or harm of a young person will be responded to immediately and appropriately.

•All concerns will be taken seriously, documented, and handled with appropriate confidentiality.

•Concerns will be reported to the relevant authorities in accordance with Western Australian mandatory reporting obligations.

•No person will be disadvantaged or penalised for raising a genuine concern about child safety in good faith.

•KTC will cooperate fully with any investigation by relevant authorities.

 

Photo and Media ConsentKick to Connect respects the privacy and safety of young people in all media and communications

.•No images, video, or audio recordings of young people will be taken without written consent from a parent or legal guardian.

•Consent forms will be obtained prior to each program and kept on record.

•No images of young people will be published on the KTC website, social media, or any public platform without explicit written consent.

•Participants will never be photographed or filmed in change rooms, bathrooms, or any private space.

•If a parent or guardian withdraws consent, images of their child will be removed from all KTC platforms promptly.

 

Complaints and Concerns

Any concern about child safety at Kick to Connect — whether from a participant, parent, volunteer, or member of the public — will be taken seriously and responded to promptly.

•All complaints will be acknowledged within 24 hours and responded to within 48 hours

.•Complaints will be handled confidentially, with information shared only where necessary to resolve the concern or meet legal obligations.

•Where a complaint involves a potential criminal matter, it will be referred to the appropriate authorities.

 

Policy Review

This policy will be reviewed annually and updated as required to reflect changes in legislation, best practice, or KTC's programs and operations.Any person involved in KTC programs will be informed of updates to this policy before they take effect.

 

Two-Adult RuleKick to Connect operates a strict two-adult rule to protect both young people and the adults who work with them.

•No young person will ever be alone with a single adult in any setting — supervised or unsupervised.

•This applies at all times during programs, before sessions begin, and after sessions end.

•If a situation arises where only one adult is present, appropriate steps will be taken immediately to ensure a second adult is present or the young person is returned to their parent or guardian.

•This rule protects young people from harm and protects adults from false allegations.

 

Online Safety and Digital CommunicationKick to Connect is committed to ensuring that all digital communication with young people and their families is safe, appropriate, and transparent.

•All communication with young people must occur through approved KTC channels only — never through personal social media accounts or personal messaging apps.

•Any online sessions or digital program delivery will be conducted on approved platforms with appropriate privacy and safety settings enabled.

•Screenshots or recordings of online sessions involving young people will not be taken without explicit written consent from a parent or guardian.

•Any inappropriate online contact or communication involving a young person will be treated as a child safety concern and responded to accordingly.

•Parents and guardians are encouraged to monitor their child's participation in any online KTC activities.

 

Participant and Family Code of Conduct

Kick to Connect is a safe and inclusive environment for all young people. To protect every participant, we ask that young people and their families uphold the following standards:

Young people agree to:

•Treat all other participants, coaches, and volunteers with respect and kindness.

•Respect the physical and emotional boundaries of others at all times.

•Speak up if they feel unsafe, uncomfortable, or witness behaviour that concerns them.

•Not engage in bullying, harassment, or discriminatory behaviour of any kind.

 

Parents and guardians agree to:

•Model respectful behaviour toward all participants, coaches, and other families.

•Raise any concerns directly with Todd rather than confronting other participants or families.

•Support their child to engage positively with the program and the people in it.

•Inform KTC of any circumstance that may affect their child's safety or wellbeing during the program.

 

Participants or families who repeatedly breach this code of conduct may be asked to leave the program.

 

Incident ResponseIf a child safety concern arises during a KTC program, the following steps will be taken immediately:

•Step 1 — Ensure the immediate safety of the young person. Remove them from any situation of risk.

•Step 2 — Do not investigate, question, or interview the young person about the concern. Leave this to trained authorities.

•Step 3 — Document the concern in writing as soon as possible — what was observed, said, or reported, and by whom.

•Step 4 — Contact the relevant authorities in accordance with WA mandatory reporting obligations.

•Step 5 — Notify the parent or guardian unless doing so would place the young person at further risk.

•Step 6 — Preserve all documentation and cooperate fully with any investigation.

 

Annual Policy Review

This policy will be reviewed every 12 months and updated as required to reflect changes in legislation, best practice, or KTC's programs and operations.
